Frequently Asked Questions

What options are available for wooden fences?
There are several options available to you when it comes to wooden fences. The first option is the type of fence that you wish to have installed; privacy or picket? With privacy fences teh standard height is six feet, but there may be situations where an eight foot fence can be built depending on such things as zoning laws and homeowners association covenants. Next you need to decide whether you want your fence built with pressure treated wood or cedar wood.
Now you can decide on the style of your fence. You may choose to have a shadowbox fence, a straight line fence or a half-lap fence installed
The shadowbox fence offers the least amount of privacy but adds character to your yard or business lot. This style is currently very popular with homeowners. The standard straight line fence, also known as board-to-board, is probably the most commonly seen fence type. This fence offers more privacy than the shadowbox fence does but as the wood dries out and shrinks, small gaps will appear between the boards. These gaps are usually not more than a quarter of an inch. The half-lap fence is another very popular fence and offers complete privacy for your home or business. Even after the wood shrinks, the build of the fence keeps any gaps from forming.
You can customize any of these fence styles by adding French Gothic topped posts instead of the standard flat topped posts. You also have the option of leaving your top fence line as standard flat line or you may choose to have your top fence line cut in Cape Cod style or even reversed Cape Cod styles. At B & B Fencing there is no additional charge for a top line cut.

What other types of fences do you install?
Besides wooden fences, we also install aluminum and vinyl fences. Both, aluminum fences and vinyl fences are available in heights ranging from four to six feet tall. These fences come in many different styles and are an enhancement to any property type or setting. Our aluminum and vinyl fencing are manufactured by National Fence Systems Inc., a national leader in fence manufacturing.

How long will the installation process last?
This depends upon the type of fence that you are having installed; wood, aluminum or vinyl. We also have to take into consideration the overall linear footage of the fence. In most cases we can have your fence completely installed in just a few days.

What kind of warranties or guarantees come with my fence installation?
At B & B Fencing we stand behind our work. If at any time you have questions or concerns about the quality or craftsmanship of your fence do not hesitate to call us. We will make every effort to rectify the issue and we will replace severely warped boards within 3 months of purchase free of charge. Aluminum and vinyl fences fall under the manufacturers warranty.

Does someone have to come to my location or can I get an estimate over the phone?
An on site visit is not required in most cases. We can give you an estimate over the phone or even via e-mail if you prefer. However, for an exact price quote, a site visit is preferred. In order to give you an estimate over the phone we will need to know what type of fence you would like installed, such as wood, aluminum or vinyl; the style of fence, for example, shadowbox, half-lap or straight line; the linear footage of your fence and the number of gates requires.

What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, personal checks, Visa, Mastercard and Discover cards.

Do I need to pay anything up front?
We only ask for a down payment when an aluminum or vinyl fence is being installed because each style is special ordered from the manufacturer. We generally do not require any money up front on wood fences. Payment is expected to made in full upon completion of the job to your satisfaction unless other arrangements have been made prior to the work being started.

Do you offer any financing options?
Not at this time.

Can I have my fence installed on my property line?
This depends on a few different things. Utility easements and homeowners association covenants are just two of the things that may restrict the location of your fence line. At B & B Fencing, we will generally set your fence line a few inches inside of your property line. This helps to avoid future disagreements that can arise as a result of property line disputes. However, we will build your fence up to the property line if this is what the customer wants, with the understanding that it is the customer's responsibility to show us precisely where the property line is located and assumes resposibilty if at a later time the fence is discovered to be over the property line.

Which type of wood lasts longer, pressure treated or cedar?
Pressure treated wood has a longer useful lifetime than cedar lumber does, especially when the lumber is in contact with the ground. A quality sealer will extend the lifetimes of both treated and cedar lumber.

When should I seal or stain my fence?
It is best to wait for several months, usually six to twelve, before applying a stain or sealer. It is important to let the lumber dry out so that moisture does not get trapped inside. This can cause severe warp and bow, especially in treated lumber.
